Where to change money

Currency exchange counters are located in the arrivals hall, alongside ATMs and several mobile-operator desks for picking up a local SIM.

Which currency to expect

Georgia's currency is the Georgian Lari (GEL). Euros and US dollars are the easiest foreign currencies to exchange on arrival, though rates at any airport exchange counter are rarely the most competitive — exchanging a modest amount to cover your first taxi or bus fare is usually enough.

Card payments are widely accepted

Cards are accepted at most shops, restaurants, and hotels in Kutaisi and across Georgia, so you don't need to carry large amounts of cash — but having a small amount of Lari on hand is useful for the shuttle bus, marshrutka, or a taxi to the city.

ATM withdrawals

ATMs in the arrivals hall dispense Georgian Lari; check with your home bank about foreign transaction fees before you fly, as these vary widely by bank and card type.
