One of Georgia's most visited caves
Prometheus Cave sits about 23 km northwest of Kutaisi, roughly 40 metres below ground, and is one of the most popular natural attractions accessible from the airport.
What's inside
A network of chambers reveals thousands of years of stalactite and stalagmite formations, an underground river called the Kumi, and fossilized waterfalls, all enhanced with lighting designed to highlight the cave's natural colours and shapes.
The standard visit
Tours typically follow a walking route through around 6 of the cave's roughly 22 chambers (over 1 km of tunnel), finishing with a short boat ride along the underground river — a distinctive way to end the visit.
Getting there without a rental car
There's no public transport directly to the cave, so a taxi, private transfer, or organized tour is the practical way to go — many day tours combine Prometheus Cave with Sataplia Nature Reserve or the Okatse and Martvili canyons for a fuller day out.
Time to budget
Between travel time and the visit itself, plan for roughly half a day — comfortably doable if you have 5 or more hours before or after your flight.
